About Me and This Blog

I’m a radiologist, and I’ve settled in Iowa, the flyover zone.

For now, here’s where I’m growing roots, practicing my craft as a physician/radiologist, and nurturing the critters that inhabit my corner lot in Iowa City. I believe that sharing our stories is an important step in humanizing the profession of radiology. It means coming from the darkness into the light. It means breaking the harmful stereotype that makes us invisible. It means recognizing that we are full human beings, not just technical nerdy physicians. This blog is about being like redbuds, about flowering right here, right now, from every surface of our beings. Let’s shed the expectation that we need to be perfect before we risk being seen and sharing about what matters most to each of us. Together we can bring more joy, creativity, and play into the practice of radiology. We can learn to speak to each other from the heart and infuse our work with meaning. We can honor our patients and their families by providing the right care at the right time. Let’s change how we are living and working starting now so that our planet remains habitable for our children and grandchildren ad infinitum. There is enough for everyone. We can stop unnecessary imaging, and we can provide for the underserved.
